Destination IQ brings together tourism operators and stakeholders from across the state to discuss opportunities and strategies for the development of First Nations tourism in Queensland. Destination IQ is open to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous participants. It is a celebration of the successful growth of the sector and is firmly focused on the future.
QTIC Indigenous Program Manager, Rhonda Appo, is developing a diverse and stimulating program.
“DestinationIQ starts conversations, offers insight and builds knowledge. It is about ensuring First Nations Tourism continues to flourish across Queensland and that opportunity is capitalized on.
“Despite several efforts from the Federal Government to close the gap, Indigenous Australians continue to face significant economic disadvantage. DestinationIQ supports the inclusion of First Nation Australians in all aspects of the industry, it promotes opportunities for growth and openly discusses the challenges that are faced,” Ms Appo said.
This year Keith Henry, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Indigenous Tourism Association Canada, will be a guest speaker and will bring with him a wealth of knowledge and experience.
“The world interest in Indigenous tourism is growing and there has never been a more important time to create international Indigenous destinations. Indigenous people across the world bring important cultural, social, and environmental values to visitors. The world needs more Indigenous experiences.
“There are untapped domestic and international demands for Indigenous experiences. A responsible approach will bring new sustainability for the Indigenous people and our communities,” said Mr Henry.
An event like this is beneficial to all and it’s not too late to get involved. Be quick, as spaces are limited. QTIC still have sponsorship opportunities available and participants register online
