Earlier this week the 2019 QTIC Young Professionals Mentoring Program kicked off with a record number of mentees paired up with senior industry professionals.
The 33 mentees, and their mentors, will spend the next five months working together.
QTIC Chief Executive Daniel Gschwind said the future of tourism depended on the passion, commitment and skills of young tourism professionals.
“This year we have another extraordinary group of young people willing to further not only their own careers, but also continue to build up our industry,” he said.
“They’ve signed up to our mentoring program to be inspired by highly qualified tourism professionals and experts.
“And I have no doubt the inspiration will flow both ways, with mentors also getting something out of the program.
“We look forward to seeing what this year’s mentees will go on to do in the future.”
Mentee Rosie Hanlon said she was thrilled to have such an amazing mentor in Hilton Brisbane HR Manager, Adrienne Putelli and couldn’t wait to start working with her.
“I graduated from UQ at the end of last year and wanted to get some real industry experience from someone doing what I want to do and to match my qualifications,” she said.
“By the end of the program I hope to get that, and I also hope to have a better understanding of myself, where I want to be and how the tourism industry actually works.”
Assistant Minister for Tourism Industry Development Meaghan Scanlon said in her keynote speech at the launch event that mentee-mentor relationships were an invaluable resource.
“I’m the youngest female elected to Queensland Parliament, so I understand the importance of nurturing up-and-coming leaders,” she said.
“I want to congratulate you all for taking this step in furthering your careers and developing your networks.”
