Sales Executive of CaPTa Group, Willie Enoch-Tranby said, “Winning the award is recognition of our hard work over the years and the organic, honest and respectful partnership between the Woodward’s and my family.
“It shows that non-Indigenous and Indigenous people can work together for the benefit of the community, creating jobs and a clear pathway to success, as I have experienced coming through the CaPTA Group’s Career Training Centre’s system and structure”.
The CaPTA Group employ over 200 staff across several of their tourism products 15% of which are Indigenous. In 1993 the CaPTA Group started to spearhead Indigenous tourism and Indigenous employment in Far North Queensland by forming a partnership between the Woodward and Enoch family, with the approval of late Djabuguy elder Grandad Lyn Hobbler.
Mr Enoch-Tranby continued, “The partnership began with the late Charles Woodward and wife Pip understanding the importance of preserving Indigenous culture which brought the two families together to create the Rainforestation-Pamagirri Experience.”.
Pamagirri is set in the pristine World Heritage Rainforest in Tropical North Queensland which combines Australian wildlife and authentic Indigenous culture. The experience offers an educational outlook into Indigenous culture. Since starting 26 years ago Pamagirri has performed approximately 22,500 times and welcomed nearly $3 million visitors from every corner of the globe.
Being the Year of Indigenous Tourism the CaPTA group team are hard at work to ensure Australia offers authentic Indigenous tourism experiences.
CaPTA Group Managing Director, Peter Woodward said, “This year, we will continue to work on ways to develop deeper connections with the local aboriginal community. We will seek new opportunities within events and festivals to showcase the talented Pamagirri Aboriginal Troupe and as always, work on our capacity to share indigenous culture, stories and history with the world”.
