A word from the QTIC Chair

Dear colleagues,

As we conclude another impactful year for Queensland’s tourism industry, I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to our members, key stakeholders, sponsors, and partners. Your steadfast support has been crucial in driving our collective success throughout 2024. Together, we have navigated challenges and celebrated significant milestones, further solidifying Queensland’s status as a premier destination.

I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Brett, our outgoing CEO, whose visionary leadership has greatly influenced QTIC and the broader Queensland tourism landscape. His dedication to our mission and his effective advocacy for our industry have left a lasting impact. We wish him every success as he transitions to his new role as CEO of Peak Services. We will announce his successor in the coming weeks.

With mid-November approaching, I am excited about the upcoming Tourism Week. Events such as Destination Q and Destination IQ are set to facilitate meaningful discussions and innovations that will shape the future of our industry. I encourage everyone to participate in these essential gatherings as we work together to enhance the vibrancy of Queensland’s tourism sector.

Additionally, I would like to congratulate the finalists of this year’s Queensland State Tourism Awards, taking place at The Star. Your hard work and creativity deserve recognition, and I wish you all the best on this significant occasion.

As we look to the future, I also wish to acknowledge the recent Queensland State Elections and congratulate the incoming Premier, David Crisafulli, and his Ministry. Their commitment to supporting our tourism industry is promising, and we look forward to collaborating on initiatives that will foster growth and resilience in our sector. It is particularly encouraging to see the responsiveness to the key issues that our members have identified as critical.

I would like to remind everyone that the Queensland Tourism Industry Council’s 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, in Brisbane. In accordance with Article 11.2 of the QTIC Constitution, one-third of the elected board members must retire at each AGM. This year, the positions to be vacated include myself (Elsa D’Alessio, Chair) and Nick Ellis (Deputy Chair). Both of us have nominated to re-run and we look forward to your continued support for re-election.

Thank you once again to everyone in our exceptional industry. This year has been marked by innovation, resilience, and growth, and it is your dedication that propels us forward. As we conclude 2024, let us embrace the opportunities that lie ahead and continue our journey toward establishing Queensland tourism as a global leader.

Warm regards,

Elsa D'Alessio
