QTIC Chief Executive, Daniel Gschwind said, “With Destination IQ being held on the Sunshine Coast this year we wanted to give back to the region. We are proud to be supporting Trees for Tourism and we will be donating $2 per person which equates to 50 trees being planted in the area, which we are very excited about.
“The tourism industry is inherently reliant on our natural environment. Through Trees for Tourism, the industry can give back and make a positive change to the environment we rely on. We can demonstrate our commitment to the protection of our natural environment and support a positive change initiative led by industry”.
Tourism Noosa Environment and Sustainability Manager, Juanita Bloomfield added, “We are delighted that QTIC is supporting and getting behind our program for Destination IQ.
“Trees for Tourism was developed to recognise the economic and social importance that events provide to the local community and our desire to find a way for events to give back environmentally”.
Noosa District and Landcare Manager Phil Moran continued, “This outstanding initiative shows that tourism and the environment are not mutually exclusive. Noosa Landcare applauds the foresight of the tourism sector to tangibly contribute to improving our natural environment here in Noosa”.
Destination IQ is now only seven weeks away and brings together business leaders, employers, government representatives, tourism organisations, native title holders and community organisations to discuss important issues, opportunities and strategies for supporting Indigenous tourism growth and Indigenous employment across the state.
