Greater Brisbane 10 Day Restrictions

A significant and positive step today after the lockdown measures on Friday. The Premier announced this morning that most of the lockdown measures for Greater Brisbane would ease from 6:00 PM tonight. This follows another day of no local COVID cases and is the best possible outcome. Residual measures will remain in place for the next ten days to Friday 22 January, specifically the mask requirements for many activities.

Unfortunately, social distancing requirement for restaurants and hospitality venues over 200 square metres will go back to 1 guest per 4 square metres and dinners will need to be seated. Venues under 200 square metres will remain at 1 per 2 square metres.

The Queensland’s COVID Safe Future roadmap will be published and continuously updated on the Queensland Health website which we encourage everybody to refer to. Some current details below. Further details for tourism transport operators in Greater Brisbane are still being worked out.

Travel with the Greater Brisbane area and across Queensland is now unrestricted. That is great news. People travelling from Greater Brisbane to other areas should follow mask-wearing rules that are in place for Brisbane. There may be further advice provided to operators to clarify how they should communicate with arriving guests.

We now hope that other states and territories will adjust travel restrictions in relation to Queensland in a timely manner. The Chief Health Officers will meet later this morning.

This is hopefully a lasting step in a positive direction. Very strong positive collaboration across government and industry.

Stay well
